About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is seeking qualified applicants for our Transportation Maintainer 2 (DOT Highway Electrical Technician) position in the Hartford Electrical Facility. This role has an advancement opportunity for the target class of Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical) in District 1 Hartford Electrical. The purpose of this position is to perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of the Department's traffic lights and highway illumination within District 1. Upon successful completion of a 2-year training period, the incumbent in this role will be evaluated and may be promoted to the target class of Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical).

Requirements

Must indicate current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement in the "Licenses and Professional Certifications" section of the application.
Must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal.
Must be willing to accept emergency duty assignments, including working at heights in a bucket truck on highways and secondary roads, performing high voltage repairs to highway lighting and traffic signals.
Must have a 30-mile residency from the posted job location (Hartford).
One (1) year of experience in the construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, maintenance and repair of roadsides, roadways, bridges or airports, in work involving the operation and care of mechanical equipment or work in one of the recognized maintenance trades.

Responsibilities

Perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of the Department's traffic lights and highway illumination within District 1.

Accept emergency duty assignments, including working at heights in a bucket truck on highways and secondary roads, performing high voltage repairs to highway lighting and traffic signals whenever services are needed.
Perform a variety of moderately skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of state roadsides, roadways, bridges, airports, and other departmental facilities.
Operate and maintain complex mechanical equipment.
Work as a moderately skilled mechanic in garages in the routine repair of mechanical equipment.
