About The Position

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is seeking applications for a Transportation Maintainer 2 position within the Materials Management Unit, Central Warehouse in Rocky Hill. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This is an on-site position located in Rocky Hill, CT, and requires candidates to live within 30 miles of the garage. Incumbents must be willing to accept assignments to emergency duties, including mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30.

Requirements

Must be a current State of CT employee with at least six (6) months of full-time service or full-time equivalent service.
Possess a current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, reflecting the “tank endorsement”.
Possess a current valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC).
One (1) year of experience in the construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, maintenance and repair of roadsides, roadways, bridges or airports, in work involving the operation and care of mechanical equipment or work in one of the recognized maintenance trades.
Ability to use and make routine repairs to complex mechanical equipment.
Ability to operate equipment as listed in the job description.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to utilize computer software.

Responsibilities

Performing a full range of various materials management duties, both manual and clerical.
Receiving daily deliveries, stocking commodities, and issuing materials and supplies.
Maintaining accurate inventory levels manually and electronically.
CoreCT time entry.
General housekeeping and landscaping/snow removal duties.
Utilizing CoreCT – Inventory Management Module for inventory control.
Receiving vendor deliveries, verifying against purchase orders, unpacking, checking condition, quantity, and part numbers.
Tagging items and stocking them in appropriate storage locations.
Performing cycle counts for inventory control.
Operating forklift, reach truck, and other warehouse equipment.
Traveling to other stockrooms and vendor locations to obtain/deliver parts and supplies.
Providing backup coverage in satellite stockroom operations.
Performing warehouse/stockroom housekeeping duties.
Performing landscaping and grounds keeping duties such as mowing, weeding, plowing, shoveling, and raking.
Operating hand and power tools for landscaping and grounds keeping.
Mandatory overtime is required November 1 through April 30 to support the Agency’s snow and ice program.
Answering telephones, taking messages, using copier, and performing data entry.
Performing related duties as required.
Performing a variety of moderately skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of state roadsides, roadways, bridges, airports, and other departmental facilities.
Operating and maintaining complex mechanical equipment.
Working as a moderately skilled mechanic in garages in the routine repair of mechanical equipment.
Survey monument setting.
Burning and cutting with acetylene torch.
Flagger (traffic control).
Assisting a Material Storage Supervisor with stores section material handling.
Performing moderately skilled tasks in one or more of the following areas or trades: Construction; Maintenance; Mechanical repair; Electrical; Carpentry; Masonry; Welding; Plumbing; Painting.
Relief ferry mate, drawbridge attendant and/or rest area attendant.
Assisting a Transportation General Supervisor, Transportation Garage Supervisor, or Transportation District Electrical Supervisor in preparing and checking various reports or operating a two-way radio in a District Maintenance unit.
Wildlife hazard control.
Radio monitoring and communication.
Escorting vendors, contractors, etc. in secure areas (state owned airports only).
Functioning as a guard/watchperson or being required to receive training in, stand by for and respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations at state-owned airports.
