About The Position

Under supervision to perform a variety of office support, field, and technical assistance duties; assist City staff in the completion of assigned work; collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data; assist in the preparation of studies, reports, and recommendations; perform errands and provide a variety of assistance to City staff; and to perform related work as required. This is a training and first working level class used to perform a variety of office assistance, field, and technical support duties for the City. Incumbents are usually college students who work for the City in order to gain work experience related to their field of study. Incumbents work under supervision and may carry out the less complex assignments or assist in the conduct of the more technically difficult assignments as qualified. Incumbents may be assigned to work in any department depending on the needs of the City and the background of the incumbent.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, G.E.D., or vocational school is desirable.
  • College course work from an accredited college or university related to the function of the City unit for which the incumbent is to be assigned.
  • Some related work or volunteer experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of general principles, techniques, practices, and procedures of the unit of assignment.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer applications.
  • Knowledge of report writing methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of effective public information and relations techniques.
  • Ability to carry out assignments and projects in accordance with specific instructions.
  • Ability to provide a variety of assistance to City staff.
  • Ability to analyze problems, data, and situations and recommend an effective course of action.
  • Ability to operate automated equipment and standard applications software.
  • Ability to understand and work from oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of office support, field work, and technical assistance to City staff to facilitate the completion of assignments.
  • Conducts research, surveys, and studies assigned by City staff.
  • Performs a variety of duties related to special assignments and projects.
  • Responds to public inquiries.
  • Works within specific guidelines and statements of expected results with limited latitude for independent decision making.
  • Under supervision investigates, studies, analyzes, and makes reports.
  • Assists in surveying practices in other jurisdictions.
  • Assists in the preparation of proposals for new and adjusted services.
  • Assists in the preparation of procedural manuals.
  • Assembles and consolidates data for the preparation of financial studies, revenue estimates and forecasts.
  • Make drawings and exhibits for City Council and other hearings and meetings.
  • Prepares illustrative material such as graphs and charts.
  • Performs miscellaneous office tasks such as operating duplicating equipment, filing, and recording data into record books.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
