About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) oversees building and maintaining the nation’s 5th largest interstate system and the 3rd largest number of bridges. ODOT is seeking a Transportation Engineer 1 (TE1) or Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2). The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. The hire will complete ODOT’s Transportation Civil Engineering Program, which includes a 12-month training plan and scheduled rotations through the department’s core engineering disciplines: Planning & Engineering, Construction, and Highway Maintenance. This role offers a thorough introduction to these core civil engineering disciplines, working alongside ODOT professional engineers, and gaining hands-on transportation training and experience needed to further a career with ODOT.

Requirements

  • Transportation Engineer 1: Bachelor's degree in engineering; Accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT exam) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
  • Transportation Engineer 2: Valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641.
  • OR Transportation Engineer 2: Bachelor's degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. engineering related experience.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
  • All candidates applying for employment opportunities should be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Sponsorship for an employment visa is not currently available for positions with the Ohio Department of Transportation.
  • The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
