About The Position

United Food Bank is seeking a Transportation Coordinator to organize, communicate, and dispatch a dedicated team of Drivers at their main distribution facility. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely, safe, and efficient movement of food and donated products. The Transportation Coordinator works closely with various internal teams to ensure product delivery, supports fleet readiness, and maintains compliance with regulations. The position is committed to maintaining a safe, organized, and customer-focused operation that advances the mission to alleviate hunger.

Requirements

  • Passion for alleviating hunger, serving the community and aligned with our mission and values
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Food Handler card and ability to acquire Serve Safe Certification (training will be provided)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and socio-economic levels
  • Exhibits qualities of maturity, good judgment, and tact
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-departmental teams
  • Results-driven mindset with a focus on achieving organization objectives

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel programs

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily transportation operations for food distribution, donor pickups, agency deliveries, and transfers between United Food Bank facilities.
  • Plan, schedule, and optimize delivery and pickup routes to maximize efficiency, minimize transportation costs, and ensure timely service.
  • Schedule drivers, vehicles, deliveries, and pickups while maintaining accurate transportation calendars and dispatch schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related communication with partner agencies, donors, vendors, and internal departments to coordinate deliveries, pickups, and schedule changes.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse, Programs, Agency Relations, and Operations teams to balance inbound and outbound freight, improve dock utilization, and support overall operational efficiency.
  • Monitor daily transportation activities and proactively resolve routing, scheduling, or logistical issues to ensure service commitments are met.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, manifests, vehicle logs, dispatch documentation, and electronic records in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Manage fleet administrative records, including vehicle titles, registrations, insurance documentation, and licensing requirements, ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repair needs with approved service providers to ensure fleet readiness and minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, food safety standards, vehicle safety requirements, and United Food Bank transportation policies.
  • Monitor transportation performance metrics and recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with partner agencies, donors, vendors, volunteers, and internal departments to support the timely and equitable distribution of food throughout the communities served.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts, special distributions, mobile pantry events, and other transportation-related activities as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized transportation work environment while promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager or Chief Operating and Impact Officer.
