About The Position

This is a full-time, 12-month position within the Transportation Department, working 8.0 hours per day, 5 days a week (Monday through Friday) from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. There is no civil service examination required for this position for the duration of the NY HELPS Program. Candidates must meet the minimum civil service qualifications for a NY HELPS appointment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, including, or supplemented by, courses in typing and two (2) years of office clerical experience; or Six (6) years of office clerical experience including typing; or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Eligibility for a New York State Commercial Driver’s License, Class- B” P/S” endorsements at the time of application; possession of a valid Class-B”P/S” license at the time of appointment.
  • Qualified and certified as a New York State school bus driver and have all the necessary requirements of the applicable New York State motor vehicle laws and State Department of Education requirements at the time of appointment.
  • Minimum age requirement: 21 years of age, per New York State Education Department regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Receives telephone calls regarding bus driver absenteeism, informs supervisor and contacts substitute drivers.
  • Acts as receptionist answering telephone, directing callers, taking messages and providing information of a routine nature.
  • Types forms, form letters, memoranda, reports and other materials related to the transportation department operations.
  • Maintains time cards, payroll records and driver attendance reports.
  • Assembles a variety of data for incorporation into various transportation department reports.
  • Composes and types routine correspondence.
  • Maintains orders related to mechanical report forms.
  • Processes purchase orders and maintains accounts receivable and accounts payable orders.
  • Maintains communication with bus drivers by use of the District's two-way radio system.
  • Operates an alpha-numeric keyboard to transcribe data directly to a computer.
  • Utilizes computer systems and equipment in the completion of assigned clerical tasks.
  • Drives a school bus transporting students when necessary.
