About The Position

The Transportation Aide (also described as Transport/Patient Care Assistant) provides support by safely and efficiently transporting patients throughout the facility and assisting with direct patient care. The role includes transporting patients to and from departments such as imaging, therapies, admissions, and discharge; assisting with mobility and basic care such as turning, repositioning, and feeding; and helping maintain patient comfort, dignity, and continuity of care. The position requires safe transport practices, effective communication with clinical staff, cleanliness of transport equipment, and prompt responses to patient care needs.

Requirements

• High school graduation upon hire, or previous work experience as a Transportation Aide; the experience requirement may be waived based on operational needs.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) upon hire.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate demeanor.
• Physical stamina to assist patients and work efficiently in a busy healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients safely and efficiently to and from hospital departments using appropriate equipment.
• Communicate with nursing units, hospital departments, and patients during transport.
• Verify that the correct patient has been identified for the intended transport location.
• Review relevant clinical information in the medical record, including physician orders when appropriate.
• Perform ECGs using the required technical skills and complete appropriate documentation.
• Apply infection-control principles during interactions with patients and staff, including cleaning and maintaining transport equipment.
• Assist patients with mobility and basic care, including turning, repositioning, and feeding.
• Attend department meetings, maintain current knowledge of medical center policies and procedures, and request assistance when needed.
• Stay informed about Joint Commission requirements and relevant regulatory changes.
