About The Position

Family Service League is seeking a part time Transportation Aide to work at our Family Shelter in Brentwood, NY. The Transportation Aide will be responsible for navigating and assisting students and parents with morning bus procedures. The Aide will work collaboratively with clients, educational and recreational program staff, case management, the Department of Social Services, school districts and school transportation offices. Responsibilities include offering guidance and support to families, working to foster a positive, strength-based environment and provide safe monitoring and supervision of children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in Human Services or related field required.
  • Knowledge of homeless population and DSS policies and regulations required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently and part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
  • Valid, clean New York State Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Spanish language fluency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct interaction and support to children and families residing in emergency housing to build upon strengths and resources.
  • Assume bus duties for morning school transportation hours to ensure all children leaving for school are adequately supervised and board the correct bus.
  • Monitor and record school attendance and document reason for absence.
  • Deliver daily documentation to Supervisor and Coordinator related to school attendance.
  • Communicate any transportation changes to clients, case management, Supervisor and Coordinator.
  • Practice excellent supervision and monitoring skills pertaining to the safety of children.
  • Assume bus duties to ensure all children are adequately supervised.
  • Assist with special department projects.
  • Work closely with program staff to implement and maintain program performance standards.
  • Assist and engage in enriching, interactive, and developmentally appropriate departmental activities with families.
  • Set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients; observe client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols.
  • Attend scheduled team meetings, individual supervision, and trainings as required.
  • Oversee the compliance of rules, regulations, and policies of shelter.
  • Adhere to identified schedules and routines.
  • Advocate for client needs.
  • Read and understand Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Read and respond to daily emails.
  • This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program. Essential employees are expected to report to work during inclement weather and other relevant emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted care and support for clients.
