About The Position

The Transport Specialist is a dynamic, customer-facing role responsible for providing exceptional service to guests, staff, and volunteers at Mercy Ships International Office, including safe and reliable transportation, while maintaining a high level of professionalism, communication, and attention to detail. This is a part-time, as-needed position, with hours determined by transportation and operational needs.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, signs, regulations, and vehicle operation requirements.
  • Knowledge of local and regional roadways, routes, and navigation tools, including travel to and from DFW, DAL, SHV, TYR and GGG airports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and Teams
  • Must possess a smartphone capable of supporting organizational communication applications, including Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate a variety of passenger vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, trucks, and vans.
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make safety-focused decisions.
  • Ability to stay calm and courteous while under pressure or in high stress situations
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to independently lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends, or special events.
  • Must be available 21 days out of each month and mandatory availability during conference and training programs.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License without restrictions
  • Clean motor vehicle record; subject to annual review and background checks
  • Prior experience operating passenger vehicles in a professional or organizational setting, including the use of GPS navigation and hands-free communication devices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, reliable transportation for guests, staff, and volunteers while adhering to all traffic laws and organizational driving policies.
  • Perform and document pre-trip and post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, and maintenance logs.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, including passenger manifests, trip schedules, and time logs.
  • Report vehicle issues, accidents, or safety concerns immediately.
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, fueled, properly maintained, and ready for service.
  • Review transportation schedules, routes, and traffic conditions prior to departure to ensure timely arrivals.
  • Greet passengers in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Assist with luggage or personal items.
  • Communicate pick-up times, delays, route changes, and other transportation-related updates clearly and professionally.
  • Foster a welcoming experience through informative and courteous interactions that are responsive to passenger cues and preferences.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to passenger needs or concerns.
  • Assist guests with luggage and provide basic orientation, campus and lodging information as needed.
