Transplant Surgeon

Emerald Resource Group•White Plains, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

This role exists to evaluate complex candidates, accept the right organs, and perform transplants that convert an offer into a functioning graft. You will own the surgical standard of a high-acuity program and make the calls that determine survival, recovery, and whether the next offer is used well.

Requirements

  • MD or DO, an accredited general surgery residency, and an ASTS-accredited abdominal transplant fellowship, or the equivalent for this organ focus.
  • Board certification or active eligibility in general surgery, with privileges matched to the organs you will procure and implant.
  • Independent experience in deceased- and, where relevant, living-donor transplantation for the program’s case mix.
  • Eligibility for state licensure, hospital privileges, DEA registration, and required life-support certification.
  • A record of selection-committee judgment, complication management, and clear communication with patients and families under time pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Select and list candidates so decisions are timely, evidence-based, and ready when an organ is offered.
  • Perform designated solid-organ transplants with graft and patient survival that meet or exceed national benchmarks.
  • Assess donor organs and set intraoperative strategy, including marginal-graft use, to raise safe utilization without trading away results.
  • Direct early postoperative care to cut preventable complications, unplanned returns, and early graft loss.
  • Lead selection, OR, and ICU coordination so every case has one plan from offer through discharge.
  • Drive quality review and regulatory readiness so outcomes, complications, and documentation stay survey-ready.
  • Teach residents, fellows, and advanced practice clinicians so judgment and coverage deepen beyond a single surgeon.
