About The Position

We’re looking for a passionate Transmission Engineer – OHL Work Equipment & Procedures to join our Overhead Lines – Safety and Engineering Team! You will support the overhead line teams in developing and sanctioning OHL procedures and equipment, recognising and embedding best practice through sanctioned techniques for the safe delivery of maintenance and construction works, including work at height safety equipment and procedures. This role is peripatetic, and we encourage a hybrid working approach, although we’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

Requirements

  • Minimum technical qualification of HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Technical understanding of the interaction of site activities on the wider operation of the HV system.
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of safety, technical issues and procedures relating to all items of Overhead Line (and relevant Substation systems) and equipment, including statutory, regulatory, environmental and the project delivery process.
  • Effective management and control of agreed project expenditure and of allocated budgets.
  • Wide range of experience in all aspects of Overhead Line procedures and documentation.
  • Expert understanding of technical and safety requirements relating to Overhead Line maintenance and construction works.
  • Is an excellent communicator, making sure that information is understood by all individuals within and outside the team and able to tackle issues to give satisfactory resolution.
  • Has an ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Support the National Overhead Line Team in the delivery of maintenance, capital construction and minor scheme projects by ensuring correct procedures and equipment are in place and sanctioned for use.
  • Work with the OHL teams, recognising and sharing best practice and providing technical advice and support.
  • Support and attend relevant forums and working groups, and interfacing with the Safety Teams, assisting where required with the resolution of incidents and technical issues.
  • Develop new equipment and techniques as required by the business, including the associated methodology and training packages for specialist and construction type activities.
  • Working at Height expert for Operations, ensuring Operations are fully compliant with statutory and procedural requirements, and in line with industry standards.
  • Ensure consistent communication and training of new or improved techniques and equipment to all OHL staff regarding Working at Heights where appropriate.
  • Where necessary, enact all roles as required under current CDM regulations.
  • Support data gathering for future equipment requirements and provide input into financial performance and forecasting.
