About The Position

We’re looking for two passionate OHL Operations Managers to join our Overhead Lines Team, with one opportunity based in North and one in East. They lead multiple operational teams and are accountable for safety, asset ownership, and technical integrity across a designated geographical area. They ensure the safe and efficient delivery of all Overhead Line work, meeting agreed time, cost, and quality targets. They provide strong leadership and direction, driving operational excellence, workforce competence, and continuous improvement across their area of responsibility. This is a regional role, but national travel may be required. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you.

Requirements

  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline preferably electrical engineering.
  • Significant experience in leading a multi-disciplined operational team.
  • Good understanding of overhead lines and HV systems, encompassing both electrical and mechanical aspects.
  • Demonstration of experience in managing statutory and environmental obligations.
  • Understanding of the interaction of site activities on the wider operation of the HV system.
  • Planning and project delivery experience.
  • Good understanding of National Grid’s operational policies, procedures and processes.
  • Effective people management and communication skills are essential for this role.
  • Demonstration of a detailed understanding of the company’s performance management process, personal development, managing poor performance and sickness absence.
  • Strong commercial understanding and the ability to manage a multi team regional budget, driving down unit costs by continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a generative safety culture across all levels and ensure both legislative and procedural compliance in all aspects of safety.
  • Strategy, direction and operational leadership of multiple regional Overhead Line Teams.
  • Create and maintain high performing teams, embracing change and seek out new opportunities.
  • Commercial accountability and delivery of the regional OHL optimised plan, ensuring work delivery to time, cost and quality.
  • Drive unit cost performance and commerciality throughout the team.
  • Provide safe access to the system, deliver Occupier Duties and ensure ESQCR compliance.
  • Capability and performance management of staff, including competency assessment and training.
  • Provide standby and ensure effective emergency planning, response and recovery capability is in place and tested.
  • Generate a culture of collaborative working and national prioritisation.
  • Deliver unlicensed work on time and within budget, actively seek out opportunities to grow the business.
  • Provide high quality asset condition information to provide future operational investment plans.
