About The Position

Methodist Home for Children (MHC) is seeking a Transitional Living Specialist in New Bern, NC. This role involves working directly with young men to help them set goals, overcome barriers, connect with community resources, and prepare for independent living. The Transitional Living Home provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment for male youth on probation who cannot safely return home. During their 6-12 month stay, residents focus on completing education, developing career and employment goals, finding and maintaining employment, earning a driver's license, learning budgeting and household management, and developing skills for independent living.

Requirements

• At least 21 years old
• A college graduate with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Education, or a related field
• At least two years of relevant experience working with youth or a similar population
• Comfortable communicating with families, professionals, community partners, and youth
• Organized and able to manage documentation, deadlines, and multiple priorities
• Patient, dependable, and able to establish positive relationships with young people
• Able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
• A licensed driver with a clean driving record

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive case management and individualized support to residents.
• Develop and monitor goals related to education, employment, independent living, and successful transition to adulthood.
• Help residents identify and pursue education, career, and vocational opportunities.
• Coordinate Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings and collaborate with families, probation staff, schools, employers, service providers, and other community partners.
• Maintain accurate documentation and monitor each resident's progress.
• Develop individualized transition plans to prepare residents for successful discharge.
• Connect residents with community resources, employment opportunities, educational programs, and other supports.
• Serve as a consistent mentor and positive role model while helping youth develop confidence, responsibility, and independence.
• Provide aftercare services for up to six months following placement to help residents maintain progress and successfully transition into the community.
