About The Position

Indian Creek Correctional Center is a level 2 medium security prison. This facility provides specialized treatment services to individuals with substance use disorder. The Transition Specialist is responsible for providing group education, release planning, case management, and re-entry preparation services to the clients who have completed the Cognitive Therapeutic Community program at Indian Creek Correctional Center and are within 90 days of their release from incarceration. This role involves arranging continuing care needs for returning citizens to prepare them to meet their various treatment, support, and living needs once they are released. The specialist will also facilitate Thinking for a Change classes, attend Re-Entry Council meetings in the Tidewater area, and sponsor outside vendors to conduct workshops and seminars for returning citizens. Collaboration with Virginia Department of Corrections personnel is essential to ensure quality services and promote a healing environment for individuals with substance use disorders in recovery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services field is required.
  • State certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the state of Virginia or similar certification/license recognized by the Virginia Board of Professional Counselors is required within two (2) years of signing job description.
  • Case management experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the substance abuse treatment field is preferred.
  • Experience working within a correctional or secure environment is a plus.
  • Experience working in Therapeutic Community model programs is a plus.
