About The Position

The Transition Manager is part of our P3 Solutions business at Johnson Controls. This role will lead large transition projects from the construction to the operation phase. The responsibilities include witnessing equipment delivery, startup, commissioning, and integrated systems testing for Controls construction projects. Projects led are valued at $1 to $50 M or more, requiring a seasoned construction professional to handle complex, larger projects. Under general direction, the Transition Manager is responsible for the profitable execution of assigned projects. This role involves working with owners, sales account executives, Program Managers, and HVAC Equipment Operations managers to provide sales support, including input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, and risk assessment. The Transition Manager ensures projects are completed accurately, on time, billed correctly, within budget, and within the scope of the contract, while maintaining positive cash flow and actively pursuing change orders. The role also ensures compliance with all Provincial, local, and Federal legal requirements, operates with the highest ethics, and adheres to all safety standards, including ensuring Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors do the same. The Transition Manager is responsible for following consistent and repeatable project management procedures and processes, maintaining an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight years of direct project management experience in the Building Construction Industry.
  • Management experience with projects related to Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire management and Security management systems is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large transition projects from the construction to the operation phase.
  • Witness Equipment delivery, startup, commissioning and integrated systems testing.
  • Provide sales support activities early in the development process, including input on strategy, vendor / partner’s selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, risk assessment etc.
  • Ensure that assigned projects are done accurately, on-time, billed, within budget and within scope of the contract.
  • Maintain positive cash flow.
  • Actively pursue selling change orders.
  • Ensure work performed is in compliance with Provincial, local and Federal legal requirements and operates on the job with the highest of ethics.
  • Adhere and ensure Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors adhere to all safety standards.
  • Follow consistent and repeatable project management procedures and processes.
  • Maintain an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results.
  • Act as the primary project leader on assigned projects.
  • Manage costs, billings and collections.
  • Complete project billings in a timely and accurate format to the client.
  • Maintain profitability goals and positive cash flow.
  • Review and interpret contract Terms and Conditions.
  • Analyze financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems.
  • Effectively communicate project progress, issues and financial status to management as required.
  • Utilize Microsoft Project to execute and evaluate job progress and risks.
  • Manage risks and establish project recovery plans when required.
  • Resolve disputes with minimal need for escalation.
  • Negotiate, prepare and issue subcontracts.
  • Ensure project document controls are in compliance with contract requirements and JCI standards.
  • Oversee project construction for compliance with specifications, local codes and installation techniques.
  • Develop and maintain viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors and subcontractors.
  • Attend job progress meetings as required.
  • Coordinate customer-training requirements.
  • For select and / or Mechanical projects, may self-perform cost estimating, project scheduling and project management of assigned projects.
