This position may be assigned to a central location or serve in school settings. The essential functions and duties of the Behavior Specialist position will reflect the student and staff needs of the assigned work location. Assigned work locations are subject to change as necessary. The role involves working collaboratively with district staff and families to create supportive, inclusive, and respectful learning environments for all students, particularly those who exhibit challenging behaviors. The specialist will facilitate and conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) to develop individual support plans, identify student strengths, and utilize positive reinforcement techniques. They will work with individual students in 1:1 and small group settings to reinforce behavioral goals, assess individual needs, and provide input on intervention plans related to behavioral and emotional needs. The role also includes assessing and managing impending agitation and escalation of behavioral change, maintaining accurate records of behavior incidents, and supporting ongoing progress monitoring. The specialist will model and supervise the implementation of behavior interventions in collaboration with the Behavior Facilitator and educational team, interact with team members in problem-solving meetings, and establish positive rapport with students, co-workers, and parents. They will demonstrate knowledge of behavioral strategies, share responsibility with co-workers, and communicate clearly with all stakeholders. Collaboration with other staff, data-based decision-making, and maintaining confidentiality are key aspects of the role. The specialist will also perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and may be reassigned to a building-level position.
