About The Position

This safety sensitive (SS) position supervises the daily activities of route coordinators, transit drivers, and mechanics, maintaining the safe and proper operation of JETS fixed routes and paratransit pickups.

Requirements

  • High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 19 to 23 months related experience and/or training, and 12 to 18 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
  • Arkansas CDL with Passenger Endorsement
  • Basic: Payroll Systems, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of the on-duty route coordinators, transit drivers, and mechanics.
  • Schedules the assignments of route coordinators, transit drivers, and mechanics. Schedules substitute route coordinators and transit drivers in the event that an assigned coordinator or driver does not report for duty or cannot complete his/her assignment.
  • Insures that all daily routes and paratransit pickups are run in a safe, professional and timely and manner.
  • Assists with dispatching as needed.
  • Serves as JETS Safety Officer.
  • Attends and assists in conducting regular employee meetings.
  • Directs employee training programs, including initial operator training.
  • Reviews transit driver’s daily reports and communicates operational issues to Transit Director and/or mechanic.
  • Conducts frequent "real time” performance evaluations of transit drivers through independent observation and "ride checks".
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of shelters, bus stop signs, and other transit facilities and equipment.
  • Assists JETS management with planning, evaluation, and development of fixed routes and at scene of accidents.
  • Operates a mobile 2-way radio.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and report any unsafe condition to JETS Transit Director.
  • Operates a City vehicle in the performance of essential job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
