About The Position

The Training Specialist ("TS") supports the design, development, delivery, and administration of NACA's training programs for employees, contractors, and external housing counseling partners. The TS works closely with the Training Director and Subject Matter Experts to develop curricula, create engaging learning materials, manage learning technologies, coordinate training programs, and evaluate training effectiveness. This position requires experience in curriculum development, instructional design, learning management systems (LMS), and eLearning technologies, as well as the ability to manage multiple training initiatives in a fast-paced environment. The TS serves as a key resource in developing training standards, supporting organizational growth, and ensuring staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver exceptional service to NACA Members.

Requirements

  • Experience developing training curricula, instructional materials, and learning programs for adult learners.
  • Experience administering Learning Management Systems (LMS), online learning platforms, or knowledge management systems.
  • Knowledge of instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, and training evaluation techniques.
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools and content development technologies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Experience creating presentations, training guides, assessments, videos, and other digital learning resources.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new technologies and software applications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences in classroom, virtual, and hybrid learning environments.
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent – Required.
  • B.A. or B.S. – Required, or three or more years of relevant experience.
  • Completion of NACA Pre-Purchase Training within the required development period.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mortgage, housing counseling, financial services, or a related industry preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, curriculum development, training delivery, or a related field.
  • Experience designing and facilitating instructor-led, virtual, blended, or online learning programs.
  • Experience administering Learning Management Systems and learning technologies preferred.
  • Mortgage lending, housing counseling, HUD-certified counseling, financial services, nonprofit, or real estate industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing and managing eLearning content using authoring tools, content creation software, video editing applications, or similar learning technologies.
  • Licensed Mortgage Loan Originator – Strongly preferred, or ability to complete.
  • HUD Certified – A plus; or training & testing to become HUD certified will be provided.
  • Real estate courses – Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, revise, and standardize training curricula, learning pathways, and course materials to ensure consistency and effectiveness across NACA programs and departments.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to design instructor-led, virtual, blended, and self-paced learning programs.
  • Create and update eLearning content, including online courses, job aids, videos, assessments, and knowledge resources.
  • Administer learning management systems (LMS) and other training technologies, ensuring accurate enrollment, tracking, reporting, and learner records.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, surveys, performance metrics, and learner feedback, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Research and recommend innovative learning technologies, instructional tools, and best practices to enhance employee development and engagement.
  • Manage training content repositories and ensure all learning materials remain current, accurate, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Generate training participation, completion, certification, and compliance reports for leadership review.
  • Support the onboarding and professional development of employees by creating structured learning pathways and role-based training programs.
  • Map out annual training plans for all NACA new hires.
  • Analyze training metrics, learner performance, and program outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and support organizational goals.
  • Understand various training methods or activities (e.g., simulations, mentoring, on-the-job training, professional development classes).
  • Maintain in-network and out-of-network tests and certification records.
  • Maintain LMS content, learner records, course catalogs, certifications, and reporting dashboards.
  • Promote out-of-network training opportunities to HUD-approved HCAs (Housing Counseling Agencies)
  • Conduct training needs assessments, identify performance and knowledge gaps, and recommend effective learning solutions using current training methodologies and best practices.
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills.
  • Analyze feedback from trainees after each educational session.
  • Partner with the Training Instructor and Training Director regarding instructional design.
  • Work with training staff to maintain an up-to-date curriculum database and training records.
  • Periodically audit the training database to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Produce accurate and timely documents and correspondence under tight time constraints.
  • Perform internet and other research to support training-related activities.
  • Assume ownership or share responsibility for planning, organizing, and executing projects
