About The Position

This is a professional position where the incumbent performs difficult and complex tasks serving as a supervisor in supporting the daily operation of programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Hanover County CSB adheres to the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waivers setting requirements which provide Virginians eligible for DD Waiver services the choice to receive services and supports in the community versus an institutional setting. The Training Specialist Supervisor reports to a Program Coordinator and supervises Training Specialists.

Requirements

  • Must meet the requirements for Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional (QDDP) designation.
  • Related professional experience with working with individuals with developmental disabilities within the human service field.
  • Supervisory experience in the human service field.
  • Working knowledge of developmental and other disabilities, human rights, person-centered planning and positive behavioral supports, required.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid Waiver required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, required.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and possess excellent teamwork, supervisory and time management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, human services or related field required with Medicaid Waiver experience and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in related field, one (1) of which must have been in a supervisory position.
  • Must be able to successfully pass CPR/First Aide training as well as behavior management as required by regulation, including but not limited to Title 12 of the Virginia Administrative Code. This training process includes a hands-on, in-person demonstration of first aid and CPR competency, for successful completion. This demonstration requires bending, lifting, and completing activities on the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees, performing related human resources functions and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Provides and monitors Medicaid Waiver documentation in the electronic health record, specifically monthly, quarterly and annual ISP reports.
  • Maintains files of persons served to comply with all regulatory authorities such as Hanover County, DBHDS (Licensure and Human Rights), Medicaid, and CARF.
  • Determines training needs of persons served via assessments, observation, data collection and interviews with staff, person served and caregivers/family.
  • Implements and monitors person-centered plans that outline realistic outcomes for persons served.
  • Monitors the program's provision of community involvement opportunities for the persons served and ensures employees are respecting and facilitating individual choice in community integration and/or daily living activities of persons served.
  • Participates in and leads person-centered meetings providing input on the strengths, preferences and support needs of the person served.
  • Supervises persons served in the self-administration of medication when necessary.
  • Works to communicate ideas for program development and improvement.
  • Maintains positive relationship with staff and other stakeholders in support of a consistently high quality of life for persons served.
  • Serves as both an advocate and a positive role model for persons served.
