About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program is a 10-week immersive experience designed to train the next generation of media professionals in producing, reporting, weather forecasting, and sales. Participants will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced local media environment, contributing to real-world assignments that may be broadcast or published online. The program emphasizes a digital-first approach, encouraging content creation for social media, streaming apps, and web stories. Trainees will collaborate with experienced professionals, build a professional portfolio, and have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the community or local businesses. This program serves as a direct pipeline for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's extensive network of stations.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in college (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Sports, News, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with a willingness to take initiative.
  • Understanding that media exists across multiple platforms (digital savvy).
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local communities and the impact of local media.
  • College students, seniors preferred, earning a degree in Journalism/Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Sports, News, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.
  • If interested in interning in these areas, the station may have openings in these departments: Sports, Weather, News Production, News MMJ, Marketing, Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Own the role: Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Drive digital engagement: Create content that lives beyond the TV screen, including social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Collaborate with pros: Work side by side with seasoned veterans to gain insights.
  • Commit to the craft: Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering your specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
  • Make an impact: Tell stories that matter to the community or help local businesses grow through innovative media strategies.
