About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program at WWBT in Richmond, VA, offers college students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various media roles. Participants will step into roles such as producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive, handling real-world assignments that may be broadcast. The program emphasizes digital engagement, requiring participants to create content for social media, streaming apps, and web stories. Trainees will collaborate with experienced professionals, dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to master their specialty, and build a professional portfolio. The goal is to make an impact by telling community stories or assisting local businesses, while positioning participants for potential full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's network of 113 stations.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a college student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A 'doer' mindset with the ability to take initiative.
  • Understanding that media happens across all platforms, from TV to mobile devices.
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a 'can-do' attitude.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to tell a story, pitch an idea, or explain a forecast clearly and confidently.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local communities and understanding the impact of local media.
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university (preferred Junior/Senior).
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Earning a degree in Journalism/Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, News, Sports, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.
