About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program at WWBT 12 On Your Side in Richmond, VA, is a 10-week paid internship designed to provide college students with hands-on experience in local media. Participants will step into roles such as producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive, handling real-world assignments that may be published online or air on television. The program emphasizes digital engagement, content creation for social media, streaming apps, and web stories, and collaboration with experienced media professionals. Interns will dedicate 25 hours per week to mastering their chosen specialty and building a professional portfolio, with the opportunity to make an impact by telling community-focused stories or assisting local businesses. Successful completion of the program can position interns for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's network of 113 stations.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in college (preferred Junior or Senior status).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with initiative and a willingness to work.
  • Understanding that media happens everywhere, from the big screen to the palm of someone’s hand.
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining information.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local communities and understanding the impact of local media.
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university (preferred Junior/Senior).
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Earning a degree in Journalism/Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, News, Sports, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.

Responsibilities
