About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program is a high-octane, 10-week immersive experience where participants don’t just learn the job; they own it. Whether crafting the lead story for the evening news, tracking a cold front on weather tech, or closing a digital ad deal, interns will be a vital part of the award-winning team from day one. The program is designed to provide real-world experience and serve as an audition for full-time roles within Gray Media's network.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in college/university (preferred Junior/Senior status).
  • Earning a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, News, Sports, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with initiative and a willingness to work.
  • Digital savvy, understanding that media happens across multiple platforms.
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining forecasts.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local media and community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations by assisting various departments (news, production, digital) with their crucial day-to-day tasks.
  • Create engaging content, including stories, social media posts, and digital updates.
  • Research and fact-check information to assist reporters and producers.
  • Learn multi-platform workflows for content from concept to broadcast, streaming, and social channels.
  • Assist with field assignments, potentially joining crews on location and contributing to logistics of remote broadcasts.
  • Collaborate and contribute fresh ideas to team meetings, offering new perspectives on storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Own the role of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Drive digital engagement by creating content for social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Work side-by-side with seasoned veterans to gain insights.
  • Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering a specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
  • Tell stories that matter to the community or help local businesses grow through innovative media strategies.
