About The Position

This position is located at the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) in Carson City and functions as DETR's Learning & Development (L & D) professional in Northern Nevada. The position is responsible for providing mandatory training courses to approximately 900 DETR employees, as well as teaching elective courses to employees of all State of Nevada agencies. The incumbent will conduct training needs assessments, develop course curricula, evaluate training and facilitate employee training compliance. The ideal candidate will have varied experience in overseeing and conducting sessions for vocational and skills training, including utilizing various Learning Management Systems and learning modalities (in-person & virtual) to deliver professional/occupational learning and facilitate general management development. This is a non-supervisory position. Some travel may be required within Northern/Southern Nevada and rural areas, so a valid driver's license is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in organizational behavior, education, communications, business or public administration or a related field and three years of professional experience in the adult and/or employee training and development process including conducting training needs assessments; planning and developing curriculum; and coordinating and conducting formal training.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of professional experience as described above.
  • One year experience as a Training Officer I in Nevada State service.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct training needs assessments.
  • Develop course curricula.

  • Oversee and conduct sessions for vocational and skills training.
  • Utilize various Learning Management Systems and learning modalities (in-person & virtual) to deliver professional/occupational learning and facilitate general management development.

  • Deliver training to employees using sound instructional design and learning principles.
  • Serve as liaison to department management, subject matter experts and the State’s centralized human resource division.
  • Identify performance gaps, analyze results and make recommendations.
  • Design and implement employee development programs.
  • Evaluate employee training and development programs as directed by agency management.
  • Select and monitor the work of contracted trainers.
  • Approve training conducted by political sub-divisions for various public safety occupations.
  • Conduct skills training in specific occupational areas.
  • May conduct safety classes.
  • Coordinate, oversee and/or conduct training sessions for vocation and/or skills training in specific occupational areas, career planning and development and general management curriculum.
  • Prepare statistical and informational reports as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Design and develop training curriculums using an instructional design model.
  • Deliver formal and informal learning solutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate contracted trainers.
  • Oversee specific training programs.
  • Recommend a variety of learning solutions.
