About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Technical Training Instructor performing all technical training instructor classroom-related activities, supporting course curriculum development, modification, and/or revision efforts in enlisted initial skills, and/or supplemental Technical Training courses. Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic levels within the classroom, laboratory, and/or field environment for automotive-based curriculum. Studies course objectives, technical orders, and other materials to prepare for assigned courses, blocks, and/or units of instruction. Prepares, maintains, and presents diverse material; maintains classroom decorum; and ensures supplies, equipment, and classrooms are available for training. Acts as the SME for automotive-based course materials to help ensure they meet career field education and training plan (CFETP) requirements. Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates a comprehensive and effective training program. Maintains professional and technical proficiency and accomplishes special projects related to specialty area, to include staff surveillance visits to various training activities.

  • Position has been identified as a faculty member of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
  • Minimum degree requirement of an associate's degree from CCAF or a regionally or nationally accredited post-secondary institution in the discipline or in combination with appropriate work experience (cont) in the automotive maintenance career field and the methods and techniques of instruction.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Position involves exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Requires extensive physical activity to include climbing maintenance stands and ladders, stooping, bending, moderate lifting and maneuvering under a vehicle or equipment; (cont) walking and standing for long periods of time; must be able to do moderate lifting and carrying (44 lbs.) for a short distance of 25 feet, and reach above the shoulders.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current official government issues passport.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • Position requires an annual audiogram by the local occupational health office to determine adverse hearing loss by employee when exposed to an industrial work environment and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Position requires a certificate of medical examination certifying employee is qualified and able, with or without limitation, to perform physical requirements outlined within this core personnel document.
  • In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Admirative and Management Positions, GS-1712 series.
  • This is a CCAF Position For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study.
  • To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria.

  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level (or higher) or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • My experience demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction.
  • Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: 1) Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). 2) Supervising or administering a training program. 3) Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. 4) Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
  • OR EDUCATION: I have successfully completed a Master's, or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related to the position of a Training Instructor.
  • My education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Training Instructor.

  • FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
  • One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.
  • TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
  • NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of the principles, practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction needed to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest.
  • Knowledge of automotive functions and vehicle maintenance techniques at a practical level to include knowledge and experience of automotive training aids, devices, and compression ignition engine fuel systems used in training programs.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses.
  • Knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives.
  • Skill in accomplishing special training studies and projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
