About The Position

CASES is currently seeking a Training Coordinator to join our training team who will focus on delivering the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) trainings for Verbal and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. CASES is committed to having all staff trained annually.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience with teaching or group facilitation (can be volunteer/community based or as paid employment, can be on any topic)
  • At least 2 years of experience working directly with participants/clients in behavioral health, social service, or criminal legal system context
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with demonstrated ability to manage time independently
  • Ability to demonstrate the movements involved in CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention physical safety interventions, including but not limited to: standing and moving for 1-2 hours at a time, grasping and pushing with both hands and exerting light to medium force; full range of upper body movement including arms overhead and bent elbows; full range of knee movement including squatting, lunging, and twisting
  • This is an in-person position that requires travel between our offices in Queens, Brooklyn, Harlem, and the Bronx

  • Experience navigating criminal legal and/or behavioral health systems is highly valued
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, problem-solve, pay close attention to detail, meet deadlines, work well under pressure, and maintain an enthusiastic work ethic.
  • Sensitivity to the ways that histories of trauma may interact with learning and practicing crisis prevention and intervention skills
  • Strong communication skills allowing effective interactions and supportive relationships with coworkers at all different levels and roles across CASES
  • Teaching and classroom management skills, including but not limited to: clearly presenting training content with the use of PowerPoint and workbook; eliciting responses to direct questions; facilitating dialogue and discussion; organizing pair and small group activities; assessing comprehension and proficiency; reframing material on an ad hoc basis to meet the needs of adult learners

Responsibilities

  • Deliver CPI training to CASES staff in participant-facing roles on an initial and refresher basis
  • In consultation with the senior director of training, update and customize training materials to be relevant to different staff at CASES, including staff with lived experience/peer staff, staff in mobile and field-based programs, staff in court-based programs, staff working with youth, staff in clinics
  • Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, and certification through the CASES learning management system and on the CPI portal
  • Create training schedules, inform staff of scheduled training, coordinate access to training materials and location, track their progress
  • Coordinate with training team and other CASES staff who are CPI instructors to maintain a robust pool of instructors for all training dates
  • Collaborate with data team to ensure documentation standards of trainings are maintained and that managers receive information about training completions
  • Continue learning and developing skills to deliver the most up-to-date information and techniques for de-escalation and crisis intervention, including but not limited to maintaining current certification as a CPI instructor
  • Support learners as needed inside and outside of training rooms to monitor their understanding of and proficiency in de-escalation and crisis intervention
