About The Position

We are in search of a Training & Development Specialist for our Harahan, LA office. JOB TITLE: Training & Development Specialist DEPARTMENT: Training FLSA STATUS: Exempt SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Handles the day-to-day operations of the Training department by performing the following duties: SUPERVISION: Reports to: Training & Development Manager/Director of Training Supervises: This position has no supervisory responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conduct employee orientation/training as needed. Lead instructor for Deckhand Orientation. Supervises conduct of newly hired deckhands during orientation/training. Ensure all proper documentation is secured before training is executed. Envision/incorporate new training ideas and techniques as well as write new curriculum and tests. Work with Manager/Director to develop more efficient/effective training. Collaborate with Crew Travel for Deckhand/Tankerman crew needs. Track Training Department budget expenditures and variances. Maintain administrative duties of the State Funded Grant and track all money spent. Set up any external training and assist with logistical support when needed. Maintain a good relationship with prospective/current employees, department heads, United States Coast Guard (USCG), vendors and auditors. Track current employee’s eligibility and ability for the next level of training. Oversee overall cleanliness/maintenance needed at TEAM Center & reports to Manager/Director. Compose all pay spreadsheets/trainee raises. Set up various departments meetings/zooms to present to all New Hire Orientations. Assist in training new department staff. Maintain customer approved tankerman list. Assist with input data for tracking of all employees in a training program. Process payroll for Deckhand Orientation. Maintain and oversee all uniform/boot orders for orientations. Coordinate with HR Department for all pre-employment paperwork. Input all New Hire Orientation packets into company database. Review all original MMC’s applications/physicals for Deckhands before submitting for their original license. Coordinate new employee orientations to include assisting Crew Travel as needed for all new hires. Perform other related duties as required and assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in the English language. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Three to five years related experience and/or training preferred. Marine Industry experience preferred. Master decking skills; Tankerman Ticket Preferred. Knowledge of office administration procedures. Ability to operate most standard office equipment. Attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Proficient spelling, grammar, and written communication skills. Excellent telephone and oral communication skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC card. Must be able to perform all tasks that Deckhand and Tankermen are required to do. (See Deckhand and Tankerman job description.) Must be able to conduct Deckhand Orientation with hands on training. Must be able to attend training as necessary to perform job and increase knowledge. Proficiency in or knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite software. High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. Excellent telephone and oral communication skills. Position requires ability to work nights and weekends and travel with orientation. Must be highly self-motivated and possess organizational skills. Must be comfortable or willing to learn to drive large passenger van and pull trailer. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requirements
