About The Position

As a culturally responsive member of a highly supportive and collaborative team, the Training Coordinator mental health provider provides oversight for the training program, as well as delivers quality direct clinical services, supervises agency trainees and staff, and delivers outreach programming to the campus community. This position reports to the Director. Under the direction of the Director, the Training Coordinator will provide oversight for training program activities. The Coordinator of Training maintains primary responsibility for creating, implementing, and providing leadership for clinical trainees, oversees professional development, and coordinates community training opportunities.

Requirements

  • Must possess the education and experience required to obtain: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a supervision designation (LPCC-S) in the state of Ohio.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours.
  • Licensure in the State of Ohio as a LPCC-S, or Ohio license eligibility.
  • Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Skill in clinical counseling
  • Skill in verbal, written, and interpersonal communications
  • Skill in personal computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to design and implement a variety of psycho-educational programs
  • Ability to work nontraditional hours as required, including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a university counseling center.
  • Experience counseling college and/or high school-aged populations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the training program fits within the overall scope and mission of CAPS, Student Life, and Kent State University.
  • Provide leadership for training programs including mission, vision, policies, and procedures.
  • Establish training policies and procedures consistent with ethical guidelines, best practices, and applicable state and federal statutes.
  • Administer training program for students in Kent State University counseling-related training departments and expand program as indicated.
  • Ensure efficient, high-quality service and evaluation for the training program.
  • Generate timely reports related to direct service hours, training program evaluations, supervisory evaluations, and data germane to state training guidelines.
  • Develop and update training recruitment materials and training-related policy and procedure manuals.
  • Participate in the selection of agency trainees, trainee orientation and evaluation, seminar development, supervisor selection, data analysis for training programs, and preparation of related reports for program development and evaluation.
  • Represent and advocate for CAPS’ training programs at departmental and local levels.
  • Work within a comprehensive communication strategy to promote staff input, participation, and buy-in for CAPS training activities.
  • Work with other CAPS leaders to coordinate parallel activities involving trainees, including but not limited to clinical services and campus outreach activities.
  • Provide leadership for the development of supervisorory skills and credentials for counseling staff.
  • Provide leadership for staff professional development activities.
  • Seek increased awareness, knowledge, and skills that facilitate culturally informed interventions.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Facilitate both face-to-face and telemental health services as indicated.
  • Participate in the provision of mental health triage services.
  • Conduct intake interviews, psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment plan formulation.
  • Provide brief individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy to students with a broad spectrum of psychological, academic, and interpersonal concerns.
  • Respond to high-risk clinical situations.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency services to the university community.
  • Administer psychological assessment, including intellectual, behavioral, and personality, as indicated by training and discipline licensure.
  • Provide collaborative care with a multidisciplinary team of mental health and primary care providers at the DeWeese Heath Center.
  • Conduct mental health and preventative outreach programming to educate students and the university community. Priority will be placed on those activities that raise mental health awareness, decrease stigma, increase help-seeking behavior, and prevent suicide.
  • Offer supervision and seminars to agency trainees in accordance with training policies and procedures. Also, provide clinical and administrative supervision to clinicial staff.
  • Provide consultation to university students and their families, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Complete clinical documentation according to CAPS policies and procedures.
  • Prepare for outreach activities.
  • Complete report writing.
  • Prepare for supervision activities.
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education activities.
  • Follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, and HIPAA.
  • Attend CAPS staff, clinical team, and committee meetings.
  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement of CAPS processes and systems.
  • Participate in Student Life and university-wide committees.
  • As budget allows, represent CAPS on the Kent State campus, in the State of Ohio, and nationally.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
