About The Position

The Lee County Department of Transportation is looking for someone who is curious, dependable, and ready to learn. In this Trainee Technician role, you will help inspect roadways and multiuse paths, collect field data, support repair projects, and learn how to use tools that keep our community’s roads safe and well-maintained. No prior experience is required. We will train you on everything you need to know. You should be comfortable using a tablet, phone, and computer for data entry.

Requirements

• Valid Class E driver’s license
• Comfortable using a tablet, phone, and computer for data entry

Nice To Haves

• CTQP Asphalt Inspector Level I – must be earned within 12 months of hire
• CTQP Asphalt Inspector Level II – must be earned within 2 years of hire

Responsibilities

• Help collect and record field data for roads and multiuse paths
• Learn how to check road conditions and update ratings
• Use GIS tools like ArcGIS and software like Cartegraph OMS to review and organize information
• Learn how to make decisions about what you see in the field
• Take calls or reports from the public about pavement issues and create inspection requests
• Follow up with residents and document inspection results
• Learn the rules, standards, and best practices for roadway construction and inspections
• Inspect repair and maintenance work done by private contractors to make sure it meets plans and standards
• Meet with contractors and property owners to discuss issues and help find solutions
• Check construction plans in the field and take photos to document conditions
• Help with final walk-throughs and project acceptance inspections
• Perform other tasks as assigned
