Requirements

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of public water systems and review data to check that operations follow state drinking water standards
  • Evaluate water system records, plans, and equipment to confirm that safe practices are being used
  • Provide information to operators, officials, and the public to support understanding of regulations and water safety issues
  • Collect water samples and verify laboratory results to ensure quality standards are met
  • Identify problems and recommend steps operators must take to correct issues and maintain compliance
