The Train Dispatcher directs, coordinates, and monitors railroad traffic to support safe, efficient, and timely operations of The Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway. As the central point of communication for rail operations, the dispatcher oversees train movements, maintains accurate operational records, and coordinates with engineers, conductors, and other departments. The role calls for attention to detail, sound judgment, and clear communication under pressure, with safety for guests, employees, and railway operations as the priority. The dispatcher uses dispatching systems, radio communications, and computerized tracking tools to maintain awareness of train activity; coordinates schedules, train meets, departures, arrivals, and track usage; and adapts operations to delays, weather, emergencies, and other changing conditions. The role also includes maintaining logs and reports, supporting incident investigations, sharing updates with internal departments, and assisting with passenger flow during busy periods and special events. Dispatchers are expected to follow railroad rules and company procedures, collaborate professionally across departments, and uphold The Broadmoor’s standards for safety, operational excellence, and guest service. The position requires at least a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, the ability to use Microsoft Office, and the ability to lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds with assistance and proper safety practices. A flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as required by the events calendar, is needed. Prior experience in a similar role is highly preferred; equivalent relevant education and professional background may be considered.
