About The Position

The Kenosha County Parks Division is seeking a Long-Term Seasonal Trails Coordinator for the east end. This role involves managing the Kenosha County Parks trail system, which includes 15 miles of asphalt multiuse trails, hiking trails, boardwalks, and single-track mountain bike trails. The work requires physical exertion such as heavy lifting, digging, carrying, brush cutting, and operating power equipment for trail maintenance. Employees will be in the field to address priorities for maintaining and improving trail conditions. Responsibilities also include installing and maintaining trail signs and wayfinding markers, caring for both hard and soft surface trails, and documenting work progress, survey results, and map information. Trails Coordinators will collaborate with volunteer groups like KAMBA, Adopt-A-Trail volunteers, and other community organizations on general maintenance tasks. Knowledge of common pruning techniques may be beneficial. Additional educational opportunities and on-the-job training will be provided.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old at time of application
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and maintain during incumbency, with acceptable driving record
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to maintain a level of professionalism in the office and at special events
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with the public, employees, and others
• Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment
• Requires full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outside in any weather conditions, including extreme heat

Nice To Haves

• One year or more work experience in landscaping or trail construction is preferred
• Ability to operate and use specialized equipment including chainsaws and/or other equipment is preferred
• May entail knowledge of common pruning techniques

Responsibilities

• Maintain email and phone correspondence
• Submit reports and documentation related to ongoing trail work
• Mow and maintain trails
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on small and midsize equipment
• Operate all vehicles and equipment as assigned
• Assist in forestry operations, including tree removal and pruning
• Haul and transport equipment
• Perform other duties as required or assigned
• Manage the Kenosha County Parks trail system including 15 miles of asphalt multiuse trails, hiking trails, boardwalk, and single-track mountain bike trails.
• Investigate top priorities to maintain and improve trail conditions.
• Install and maintain trail signs and other wayfinding means.
• Maintain both hard and soft surface trails.
• Record and maintain work progress, survey results, and map information.
• Work with volunteer groups such as KAMBA, Adopt-A-Trail volunteers, and other community organizations to perform general maintenance tasks along the trails network.
