The Signal Technician will construct, install, test, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain traffic signals, school zone flashers, and streetlights. This role also involves assisting with setting up controllers and installing vehicle detection systems, communication equipment, and other traffic signal equipment. Additionally, the technician will assist with signs and markings responsibilities when necessary, and perform work related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic control signs, pavement markings, sign fabrication, guardrail, and permanent barricades. The position requires operating a variety of light and heavy equipment, hand, and power tools. The role may require working weekend, after hours, and nights for traffic management and operations for special events or emergency situations, including setting up traffic control or detours. Overnight shifts may be required for pavement marking installation. The technician will provide backup assistance, on-call coverage, and support to other City departments as assigned. Travel to work sites, meetings, conferences, and training is also part of the role. Regular and consistent attendance is essential. Must work on-call and overtime as required once becoming IMSA Traffic Signal Level I Certified. The City reserves the right to require overtime, including during emergency situations, and the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public, even if different from normal duties.
