Quality Staffing, Inc., also doing business as Goddard Mason Executive Search, a leading full-service employment agency matching qualified talent with some of the area's top companies, is looking for experienced Transportation Technician/Traffic Management Coordinators to work through our agency as a contract employee with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TN DOT) located in Chattanooga, TN. This is an on-site position working the evening shift on Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 12:00 am and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 2:00 pm to 12:00 am. The pay rate for this position is $19.00 per hour. Traffic Management Coordinator Job Description: An advanced technician position working indoors and on-site in a control room environment monitoring roadways via closed circuit cameras (CCTV) to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement. This position will be tasked with managing scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion, and travel time imbalances by utilizing Intelligent Transportation Systems devices and dispatching responders accordingly. The initial contract will be for approximately 3 months but is subject to extension upon good performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and may defer the most complex issues to a supervisor.
  • Operate various computer-based traffic management systems to manage traffic and incidents which occur on roadways and improve traffic conditions.
  • Monitor roadways via CCTV surveillance cameras and detection systems.
  • Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the system.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge on the operation of all traffic equipment, computers and software associated with the traffic systems.
  • Utilize traffic equipment for incident management and the improvement of travel time, safety, and quality of life of the traveling motorists.
  • Continually check the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all DMS and 511.
  • Be aware of all 511 messages broadcast on a particular system.
  • Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
  • Become familiar with the roadways and understand the purpose and location of each traffic device (i.e., detector stations, CCTV, and 511).
  • Alert operator staff to new and existing memos.
  • Utilize SOG to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
  • Confer with partners (highway patrol, Service Patrols, Local Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, etc.) as well as adjacent Traffic Management Centers or other DOT Regions to coordinate resources for incidents that may affect regional travel.
  • Dispatch Service Patrols and assist Service Patrols with other tasks, such as phone calls, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
