A Traffic Investigator II performs traffic studies for the installation, removal or adjustment of traffic control devices. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening, weekend and callback work may be required. Work is performed in an office and outdoors where there is occasional exposure to inclement weather and traffic hazards. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
Three years of experience in the performance of traffic investigation, enforcement or maintenance and installation work.
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit is required. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Knowledge of traffic investigative techniques.
Knowledge of the function and use of traffic control devices.
Knowledge of the major streets and roadways in the City of Baltimore.
Ability to deal effectively with the public.
Ability to read and interpret legislation and regulations.
Ability to gather and analyze traffic data.
Arithmetic ability.
Ability to write narrative reports.
Ability to read street maps.
Complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Complete a mandatory six-month probation period.
Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.
