About The Position

Southwest Barricades, established in 2006, is the largest traffic control company in Arizona. We are seeking hard-working individuals who prioritize safety to join our team. This position involves working with construction teams to ensure the safety of laborers and projects by managing automobile and pedestrian traffic. Certified training in basic traffic safety techniques will be provided by the company. The Traffic Controller is responsible for creating a safe work zone by setting up cones and barriers, and using signs to direct traffic. Constant awareness of construction and traffic activity is required, along with strict adherence to all safety regulations. The role includes setting up, maintaining, and removing temporary work zones. Commuting time to and from job sites is not considered compensable work time.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • Must have a smartphone with internet access for timekeeping and communication to receive work schedule
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions and tolerate varying climates of heat, cold, and rain
  • Pass a drug screen prior to employment and maintain a drug free status
  • Be able to stand throughout your entire shift, hand and arm movement is required
  • The position does not allow for frequent breaks
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Be physically capable of performing all flagging duties
  • Have reliable transportation to and from job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, maintain, and remove temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, and rumble strips according to ATSSA and DOT regulations
  • Load and unload work zone equipment to and from the company vehicle at the job site
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner before leaving the last job site
  • Wear and maintain proper PPE in accordance with company specific policy
  • Ensure that company vehicles are kept clean and orderly and inform management of any safety concerns or vehicle problems
  • Review start time and address of job site or meeting location (if applicable) as established and sent by office scheduler via company app
  • Read and understand company safety manual and employee handbook
  • Reports directly to a Field Supervisor
  • Other job duties as assigned
