Traffic Control Drivers place, remove, and repair temporary and permanent traffic control devices and coordinate traffic control flaggers at work sites. The role involves driving various vehicles, setting up traffic control equipment, protecting motorists and construction workers by following safety precautions, handling equipment and materials, moving construction equipment, and checking vehicles for compliance with DOT regulations. Additional tasks may be assigned by leadership. Work is performed outdoors at sites that may have extreme weather conditions and within the “red zone” of heavy equipment. The work includes prolonged and repeated lifting (including overhead, up to 50 pounds), standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. Safe work requires quick and accurate hand-eye coordination and constant alertness. Safety instructions are written and spoken in English, so fluency in English is required. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and medical fit-for-duty test; provide valid U.S. work authorization documents for E-Verify; hold or obtain a DOT medical card; and join and maintain Union membership. A valid driver’s license is required, with no more than three moving violations and no DUIs within a rolling two-year period.
