Traffic Control Technician
About The Position
The Traffic Control Technician is responsible for the safe and effective setup, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic control systems on active job sites. The role helps protect workers and the traveling public and ensures compliance with applicable traffic control regulations and standards. This is a field-based role in active construction and roadway environments. Work is physically active, including standing, lifting, and working near traffic, in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on safety and efficiency. The technician works outdoors in varying weather and traffic conditions.
Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and traffic conditions.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Good communication and situational awareness.
- Valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- Traffic Control Technician (TCT) or ATSSA certification.
- Experience in traffic control, construction, or roadway work zones.
- Familiarity with MUTCD standards and traffic control practices.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices, including signs, cones, barricades, arrow boards, and message boards.
- Direct traffic using proper flagging techniques in accordance with MUTCD guidelines.
- Adjust traffic control setups as needed based on site conditions and supervisor direction.
- Ensure traffic control setups comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct daily safety inspections to verify effectiveness and compliance.
- Maintain safe work zones for crews, motorists, and pedestrians.
- Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and project teams.
- Interact professionally with the traveling public and emergency responders.
- Respond promptly to changing conditions, incidents, or emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of traffic control setups, inspections, and incidents.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
