As a Municipal Traffic Technician, you will play an important role in ensuring that traffic control set-ups are completed according to the traffic management plan and applicable regulations. You will also work with clients to ensure that set-ups meet their needs. This role requires covering a large area of operations and may involve driving all over the GTA.

Requirements

  • Valid G class driver’s license and a clean driver's abstract
  • Must be available to work Monday - Friday between 6am - 6pm with the potential to work some evenings and weekends
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Vision and hearing abilities that allow to perform all work requirements safely
  • Must provide own CSA Grade 1 (green label) work boots with a minimum 6 inch cuff and electrical shock resistance (white label with omega symbol)
  • Comfortable using a smartphone for work purposes with ability to learn new systems/apps
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
  • Monitor traffic, construction equipment, and workers for safety purposes

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Construction or Traffic Control
  • Experience driving trucks/towing a trailer
  • Experience doing highway lane closures
  • Valid DZ driver’s license
  • Good communication skills to be able to give motorists & pedestrians simple directions, explain hazards, and answer questions
  • Able to calmly troubleshoot issues and collaborate with a diverse group of people

Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic control set-ups in accordance with MTO Book 7 requirements and approved traffic management plans to ensure the safety of all stakeholders impacted by the worksite, including crew members, motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.
  • Interpret traffic management plans to determine proper placement of signage, barrels, arrow boards, and other channeling devices.
  • Assist in installing advance warning signs, barrels, and other traffic control equipment on highways and roadways.
  • Tow an Arrow Board trailer and strategically position the Arrow Board at the beginning of the work zone in accordance with traffic management requirements.
  • Drive behind road crews while towing an Arrow Board truck or trailer to alert motorists of workers operating within live traffic lanes.
  • Regulate traffic flow to protect co-workers, construction personnel, motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Stop and direct traffic as required by worksite activities or to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow while minimizing delays and congestion.
  • Perform regular inspections of traffic control equipment and adjust or reposition equipment that has shifted, fallen, or no longer meets required standards.
  • Complete teardown and removal of traffic control sites once work has been completed.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections on Company vehicles and towing equipment to ensure safe operation and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Ensure traffic control equipment and vehicles are maintained in a clean, safe, and operational condition.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and internal teams to identify and resolve traffic control and site set-up issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in safety discussions and site coordination meetings with clients and stakeholders as required.
  • Maintain strong safety awareness at all times while performing duties.
  • Complete safety hazard assessments, reports, and related documentation as required.
  • Work in compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, company policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
