About The Position
As a Protector, you work with a team at job sites to help manage traffic safely. No experience or degree is needed; training and support are provided. Safety is the top priority. The role involves working outdoors throughout the year in all types of weather. Shifts may change based on job needs, and some nights, weekends, or emergency work may be required. You may stand or walk for 8 to 12 hours per shift. The employer provides a hard hat, safety goggles, safety vest, safety whistle, walkie-talkie, and hot- and cold-weather gear. You must provide your own above-the-ankle steel-toe safety boots. Pay is $18.36–$20.07 per hour, with overtime available and pay increases during the first year. Paid training and a traffic safety certificate are provided. Eligible employees may have access to on-demand pay; the Union will provide details about PTO and benefits. Referral bonuses and promotion opportunities are also offered.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Able to stand, walk, and work outside for long periods.
- Able to lift 40–50 pounds.
- Willing to work in traffic and changing weather.
- Flexible schedule and punctual attendance for every shift.
- Must pass pre-hire screening, including a drug test.
- Stay alert around moving traffic and follow safety rules at all times.
- Treat coworkers, clients, and the public with respect.
- Must provide above-the-ankle steel-toe safety boots.
Responsibilities
- Set up and take down cones, signs, barricades, and other traffic control equipment.
- Use a stop/slow paddle to guide traffic and monitor traffic and job-site activity.
- Follow all safety rules taught in training.
- Communicate with the crew and supervisor.
- Help keep vehicles and equipment clean and safe.
