About The Position

Apple’s Services Engineering organization is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to help develop and operate traffic management, load balancing, and secure networking infrastructure. The team owns a foundational platform used by service teams across Apple to support high availability, performance, and security, including intelligent routing and secure TLS termination. The role involves designing, automating, and operating core networking services that support Apple products across a globally distributed system operating 24x7 at immense scale. The engineer will collaborate with teams in North America and Europe and contribute to the evolution of Apple’s networking platform and SRE practices. This is an individual-contributor role with technical leadership potential.

  • At least 3 years of experience in traffic management, networking infrastructure, or distributed systems.
  • At least 3 years of software engineering or reliability engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming or scripting language, such as Golang, Rust, Python, Java, or Bash.
  • A track record of shipping production-grade tooling or services.
  • Understanding of load-balancer internals, TLS, and secure network communications, particularly at large scale.
  • Ability to respond to critical incidents and design long-term solutions in dynamic situations.
  • Belief in automation as a core responsibility.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work across time zones and disciplines.
  • Passion for operational excellence and improving reliability, performance, and security.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud-native proxies or service mesh technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Proven success delivering robust, diagnosable systems in 24x7 customer-facing environments.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning, knowledge sharing, and contributing diverse perspectives to technical discussions and team growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate highly available global infrastructure for traffic routing, load balancing, and secure connectivity.
  • Collaborate with development teams to influence architecture, improve observability, and embed SRE practices across the software development lifecycle.
  • Respond to incidents as part of an on-call rotation while prioritizing prevention through proactive engineering, monitoring, and system improvements.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation in secure, high-performance networking.
  • Write clear documentation, conduct blameless postmortems, and help define service-level objectives aligned with business impact.
  • Mentor teammates and share knowledge across the international SRE community.
  • Plan and collaborate effectively with teams across time zones, including teams in North America.
