About The Position

Apple’s Services Engineering organization is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to help develop and operate traffic management, load balancing, and secure networking infrastructure. The team owns a foundational platform used by service teams across Apple to support high availability, performance, and security, including intelligent routing and secure TLS termination. The role contributes to systems that support Apple’s global ecosystem and protect user privacy and system integrity. The Reliability Engineer will work with engineering teams in North America and Europe on globally distributed systems operating 24x7. This individual-contributor role involves hands-on engineering and offers technical leadership potential. The engineer will help shape the platform’s future direction and contribute to Apple’s broader SRE practices.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in traffic management, networking infrastructure, or distributed systems.
  • At least 3 years of software engineering or reliability engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming or scripting language, such as Golang, Rust, Python, Java, or bash.
  • A track record of shipping production-grade tooling or services.
  • Understanding of load-balancing and TLS internals and secure network communications, especially in large-scale environments.
  • Ability to navigate dynamic situations, responding to critical incidents and designing long-term solutions while knowing when to act and when to align.
  • A strong commitment to automation, with experience such as automating deployments, alert triage, certificate rotation, or self-service workflows.
  • Clear communication and effective collaboration across time zones and disciplines.
  • Passion for operational excellence and setting high standards for reliability, performance, and security.
  • Experience with cloud-native proxies or service mesh technologies.
  • Hands-on involvement with DevOps culture, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Proven success delivering robust, diagnosable systems in 24x7 customer-facing environments.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning, knowledge sharing, and contributing diverse perspectives to technical discussions and team growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate highly available global infrastructure for traffic routing, load balancing, and secure connectivity.
  • Collaborate with development teams to influence architecture, improve observability, and embed SRE best practices across the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to incidents; focus primarily on preventing incidents through proactive engineering, monitoring, and system improvements.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation in secure, high-performance networking.
  • Write clear documentation, conduct blameless postmortems, and help define SLOs aligned with business impact.
  • Mentor teammates and share knowledge across the international SRE community.
  • Solve technical problems hands-on and help shape the platform and Apple’s broader SRE practices.
