About The Position

American Conservation Experience (ACE), in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking two members for the Traditional Trades Advancement Program (TTAP) at the George Washington Memorial Parkway. This program is designed for enthusiastic individuals interested in gaining experience in historic preservation. No prior education or experience in the field is required. The program aims to support historic preservation projects alongside parkway staff, contributing to the 'DC Safe and Beautiful' efforts. Members will engage in various maintenance and repair tasks, including painting, graffiti removal, vegetation management, masonry repair, and asphalt repair. Day-to-day duties involve painting various park structures, cleaning and waxing wayside panels, removing graffiti and invasive plants, pruning trees and shrubs for safety and visibility, repairing walkways, securing railings, and performing water drainage checks. Throughout the term, members will develop skills in preservation, restoration, stabilization, and maintenance of significant cultural sites. This placement also facilitates professional development, exposure to land management agencies, and networking opportunities with professionals, potentially including shadowing different work groups.
