About The Position

The JCC Ranch Camp is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join their team as Traditional Program Staff. This role is crucial in creating a safe, fun, and memorable summer camp experience for children. Staff members are expected to be more than just counselors; they are mentors, activity leaders, and community builders. The position involves creating and running various programs, ensuring camper safety and well-being, and actively participating in camp life. This is a seasonal position focused on delivering high-quality programming and fostering a positive environment for both campers and staff.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or 17 and graduated from high school.
  • One year experience in a child care setting or a vested interest in working in a professional child care setting.
  • Satisfactorily fulfill requirements for employment at the Staenberg-Loup JCC, including: background screening, three references, documentation, and compliance with CDHS law.
  • Must be high-energy, enthusiastic, creative, and open-minded!
  • Operative auditory and visual functioning.
  • Ability to walk upwards of two (2) miles each day, including use of stairs and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand, sit in chairs or on the ground, run, and swim.
  • Ability to lift or body block campers when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a hectic, sometimes stressful environment while maintaining the standard of care.
  • Attend staff orientations.
  • Be available to live at camp for the summer season.
  • Ability to work at least 5 – 6 weeks of the summer season.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in a camp environment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Completed some college coursework or hold high school diploma (GED) or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Take care of campers by prioritizing their physical, social, and emotional health, safety, and well-being.
  • Work as a team with co-staff to ensure smooth daily operations and adherence to the schedule.
  • Complete daily camper notes.
  • Create an inclusive community for campers and staff.
  • Actively participate in all camp activities, such as horseback riding, swimming, camping, playing games, singing songs, and roasting s'mores.
  • Maintain constant awareness of camper locations and activities.
  • Manage camper behaviors using positive behavior management techniques learned during staff orientation.
  • Enforce safety policies, emergency procedures, and camp rules.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to changing situations at camp.
  • Live in a bunk with co-staff and campers.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include designing and leading special programs.
  • Create and run multiple programs each day for campers of all ages in traditional camp areas (arts and crafts, music, theatre, dance, tie dye, farm and garden, and STEM) that are safe, fun, and memorable.
  • Document the programming created for future use by other staff members.
  • Work with the program team to create and run engaging staff and all-camp programming.
  • Facilitate all aspects of traditional camp programs, including material organization, creating camper art galleries and performances, teaching gardening and ecology, and running camp crafts like tie dye.
