Trading Connectivity Engineer | Experienced Hire

Susquehanna International Group, LLP•Bala Cynwyd (Philadelphia Area), PA

About The Position

Susquehanna is seeking a Trading Connectivity Engineer to join its Proprietary Trading Services team. The role supports the firm’s core businesses and provides broad-based experience across multiple technologies. Troubleshooting is central to the position: the engineer responds when trading is disrupted, identifies whether the issue lies in an application, configuration, host, or exchange, gathers evidence, restores functionality, and documents follow-up checks or procedures. The role supports order routing across 700 gateways connecting to 100 distinct venues. The engineer onboards exchange connectivity from specification review and requirements gathering through certification testing and production cutover. They configure and maintain order-routing gateways and pre-trade risk controls, verify readiness before the market open, respond to daytime issues, investigate production incidents, and develop monitoring scripts and tools. The position also coordinates with trading desks, developers, platform teams, and other technologists, tracks externally driven projects, and provides pre- and post-trade support to traders, strategists, and quantitative researchers.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years supporting production electronic trading systems or trading connectivity.
  • Working knowledge of the FIX protocol at both session and application layers, including sequence recovery, resend and gap fill, and execution report semantics.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, bash, or shell.
  • Hands-on Linux command-line experience, including system metrics and logs.
  • Working knowledge of SQL.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including multicast, routing, and firewalls.
  • Demonstrated production discipline, including structured change control, clean incident handling, and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with traders, exchanges, developers, and other technologists.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to exchange-native binary order-entry protocols such as OUCH, Pillar, or BOE.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Grafana or Elasticsearch.
  • Familiarity with current code-generation AI tools.
  • Good understanding of financial instruments and markets.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard new exchange connectivity end to end, including venues, sessions, ports, and MPIDs, from specification review and requirements gathering through certification testing and production cutover.
  • Configure and maintain order-routing gateways and pre-trade risk controls, including order and daily quantity and notional limits, self-trade prevention, publication, cancel-on-disconnect, and kill-switch behavior.
  • Verify that the trading environment is ready before the open, including test orders, session state, and reference data, and provide first response when issues arise during the trading day.
  • Investigate production problems end to end, including rejects, session drops, sequence gaps, missing or delayed messages, latency outliers, and unexpected venue behavior; reconstruct events from logs, packet captures, and message archives.
  • Develop scripts and tools to monitor production-environment status and dependencies.
  • Liaise between trading desks, developers, platform teams, and other technologists on system-level production issues and new setups.
  • Track externally driven projects to completion.
  • Provide pre- and post-trade support for traders, strategists, and quantitative researchers.
