About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to lead a team of skilled trades workers performing day-to-day maintenance of County buildings and facilities. The current vacancy is in the Real Estate & Asset Management Department. This role involves performing routine plumbing-related facility maintenance tasks daily, overseeing work progress, inspecting completed assignments for quality and compliance, and collaborating with team members to resolve complex issues. The Lead Plumber will offer technical guidance, support training efforts by instructing staff on operational procedures and proper equipment usage, and contribute to supervisory functions by reporting personnel concerns and offering input on disciplinary actions and performance evaluations. The position also includes installing, securing, and testing plumbing equipment, serving as acting Trades Supervisor during their absence, and answering questions or troubleshooting issues with customers and other departments. Additionally, the role involves inspecting systems, performing preventative maintenance, maintaining team equipment, acting as a safety monitor, and ensuring all work is completed properly and in a timely manner. The use of large equipment, such as a bucket lift, may be necessary, and on-call work may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with vocational training required.
  • Five years of experience in carpentry, electrical wiring, HVAC, electronic systems, plumbing, welding, or a related field.
  • Must be licensed or possess industrial and commercial certification in the assigned field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and schematics helpful.

  • Ability to use large equipment, such as a bucket lift.
  • On-call work may be needed due to work schedules and demands of daily business.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine plumbing-related facility maintenance tasks daily.
  • Oversees work progress and inspects completed assignments to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Collaborates with team members to resolve complex issues and offers technical guidance as needed.
  • Supports training efforts by instructing staff on operational procedures and proper equipment usage.
  • Contributes to supervisory functions by reporting personnel concerns and offering input on disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
  • Installs, secures, and tests plumbing equipment to confirm proper functionality, then communicates results to the Trades Supervisor.
  • Serves as acting Trades Supervisor during their absence.
  • Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers.
  • Answers questions or help troubleshoot issues with customers and other departments.
  • Inspects systems and performs preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, re-calibrating, and repairing, when needed.
  • Maintains team equipment to ensure staff has the necessary equipment to complete any job.
  • Acts as safety monitor on job sites for the team.
  • Ensures all work is completed properly and in a timely manner; notates work orders with details about how work was completed and materials used.
  • Collects quotes from outside vendors.
  • May make recommendations to customers on what equipment may need to be procured.
