About The Position

This position is for a Plumber II with Charles County Public Schools. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing and heating systems, as well as related equipment. The position is 12-months, Non-Exempt, and falls under the AFSCME Scale, UA Grade 13-14. The salary range is $50,313 to $89,342, contingent upon years of experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Apprentice Plumber License issued by the Baltimore Board of Commissioners of Practical Plumbing.
  • Four (4) years of progressive plumbing experience, including at least one (1) year as a Maintenance Plumber I or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of commercial building mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Working knowledge of Charles County Plumbing Code and regulations.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Valid Maryland Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to undergo additional training as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with staff and school faculty.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals.
  • Willingness to work overtime during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing and heating systems.
  • Clear wastewater/sewage lines regularly.
  • Service, maintain, and rebuild pump systems, lift stations, and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Train new employees in trade practices and procedures.
  • Installs water service piping and tap water/sewer mains.
  • Install and repair fixtures such as lavatories, drinking fountains, and sprinkling systems.
  • Cut, bend, and thread pipes; install hot and cold water, oil, steam, or gas pipes.
  • Repairs heating system pipes and valve traps.
  • Responds to emergency situations as required.
  • Operates commercial service vehicles (trucks and vans) and tow equipment trailers.
  • Communicates effectively with staff verbally and in writing.
  • Practices safe work habits for self and others.
  • Works from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts (ex. step, extension, man, scissor, aerial boom, bucket trucks).
  • Uses smartphones, tablets, and laptops for work orders and timekeeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Foreman.
