About The Position

We are seeking a self-performing, hands-on Tradesperson I who can work independently with minimal supervision while delivering a high standard of operational and maintenance services to our clients and facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and repairing hospital plant equipment and building systems to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations within a critical healthcare environment. We are looking for a team-oriented individual who possesses strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn new skills, and the ability to adapt to changing operational requirements. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, as the successful applicant will regularly interact with clients, hospital staff, contractors, and fellow team members. A professional and customer-focused approach is required to ensure positive working relationships and a high level of service delivery. Requirements

  • Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Plumber Certificate or equivalent provincial certification.
  • Experience maintaining plumbing systems in healthcare, institutional, commercial, or industrial facilities.
  • Working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, safety regulations, and infection prevention practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Plant Service. Inspection and repair work on all facilities and systems within the scope of work defined by the facility maintenance agreement (“FMSA”), as and when required, directed or assigned, consistent with his or her skills, abilities and training.
  • Install, maintain, and repair domestic water, sanitary drainage, storm drainage, and plumbing fixtures throughout the hospital.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure reliability and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and healthcare regulations.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing issues, including leaks, blockages, water outages, and equipment failures, in a timely manner.
  • Maintain hot water systems, pumps, valves, backflow prevention devices, water treatment equipment, and related mechanical components.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of medical gas infrastructure as directed and within the limits of training and certification requirements.
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns and repairs with clinical staff to minimize impacts on patient care and hospital operations.
  • Perform water quality monitoring, flushing programs, and infection prevention measures in accordance with hospital procedures.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, inspections, and compliance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, infection control protocols, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff, contractors, healthcare personnel, and facility management to support operational objectives.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours emergency support as required.
