About The Position

The County of Volusia is seeking a Trades Worker for the Road and Bridge Division’s Drainage Task Team. This position is located in DeLand, Florida, and will be responsible for semi-skilled work in one or more of the trades requiring the ability to perform tasks with little supervision. Duties vary depending on location/position of assignment. May install and repair underground drainage piping, structures and restoration. May perform concrete work (e.g., sidewalks, driveways, free form, etc.). May do grade shots for pipe and structure installation. May perform small engine repair. May perform general and limited tasks in the construction, renovation, modification, installation, and repair of buildings, apparatus, and facilities with close supervision. May operate all associated equipment to include but not limited to medium-size weight construction equipment and vehicle (e.g. tractor, front-end loader, mini excavator, skid loader, dump truck, pick-up truck, and trailer). May perform preventative maintenance duties required for a variety of equipment. May load and unload trailer equipment and materials. May act as crew leader in supervisor's absence. Performs other duties as assigned. May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs. Attends work on a regular and consistent basis. Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances. Responds to emergency situations.

Requirements

High School diploma or possession of GED.
Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair in plumbing, mechanical pipe installation and repair, concrete or brick work.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Must obtain a Florida Class A CDL within 6 months of appointment.
Ability to perform shop math.
Ability to safely operate medium-size weight construction equipment and vehicles (e.g. tractor, front loader, mini excavator, skid loader, dump truck, pick-up truck, and trailer).
Ability to safely load and unload trailer equipment and materials.
Skilled in working from written and oral instructions, blueprints, and rough sketches.
Ability to perform work in one or more of the trades without close supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work under stressful conditions.
Ability to interact effectively with others.
Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Ability to see (depth perception, color, acuity), hear, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb, grasp, lift, carry, pull, push up to 100 pounds.
Visual acuity (peripheral vision and depth perception) is necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.
Ability to traverse uneven terrain.

Nice To Haves

Class A CDL.
At least two (2) years of experience in forming, pouring and finishing concrete.
At least two (2) years of experience with building catch basins, pipe laying, and installing sidewalks and driveways.
At least two (2) years of experience with asphalt mechanical work and shoulder repair work.
