About The Position
This position assists skilled tradespeople performing emergency, routine, and preventative maintenance at Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) pumpstations and rest areas. The role also performs ground maintenance at pumpstations and rest areas and provides backup for winter maintenance operations. It operates a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, such as a pickup truck with trailer or snowplow, when carrying out emergency repairs or maintenance operations. The position requires a Commercial Learner’s Permit at hire. Continued employment requires obtaining a CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions within twelve months of hire. This is a test-designated position and may require pre-employment or pre-appointment drug testing and a physical, if applicable. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Criminal and driving records may also be checked, and any offer is conditional on the results indicating eligibility for employment.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a laborer assisting in the construction, electrical, or mechanical trades.
- Possess a Commercial Learner’s Permit at the time of hire.
- Obtain a CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions within twelve months of hire.
